Two Sided Battlegrounds: Update 44
The Update 44 base game patch, released in October 2024 (PC/Mac) and November 2024 (consoles), was a significant free update for all Elder Scrolls Online players, accompanying the launch of the "Gold Road" Chapter. While not a DLC itself, Update 44 brought a host of quality-of-life improvements, revamped core systems, and introduced new content accessible to everyone, regardless of Chapter ownership.
Key Features added in Update 44
Two-Sded Battlegrounds
Instead of three teams fighting each other, there will no only be two teams meaning that the Storm Lords have been removed for now and only the Pit Daemons and Fire Drakes remain. The idea was to make battlegrounds more appealing to casual gamers by increasing the team size to 8 but keep the 4v4 for competitive matches. With 8 players in your team, your death will not affect the match results as much. Players under level 50 will only be able to queue to 8v8 games.
Battleground Matches last until the other team wins or a maximum of 15 minutes. Note that you can no longer afk in your teams base, as the game will kick you into the game map after some time.
New Companions: Tanlorin and Zerith-var
Tanlorin: A High Elf outcast with a mixed combat style (Soul Magic and Dragonknight abilities) and a unique lockpicking passive. Found in Auridon.
Zerith-var: A Khajiit Necromancer from the distant past with a passive that highlights valuable loot bags. Found in Reaper's March
Scribing System Expansion: Banner Bearer Grimoire
A brand-new Grimoire from the Support Skill Line that allows you to summon a banner providing an Area-of-Effect (AoE) buff to your group's abilities, customizable via Focus Scripts.
Tutorial Overhaul
Return to Coldharbour: The primary tutorial quest reverted to the original "Soul Shriven in Coldharbour," updated with modern game systems.
Improved Onboarding: New players experience a more gradual introduction to game mechanics like combat, lockpicking, and stealth, with better quest structure and initial gear drops to ease them into the game.
New Reward System: Golden Pursuits
ESO Golden Pursuits are limited-time campaigns which reward you with collectibles like Crown Crates, Costumes, Pets, Mounts, Currencies, Meals and much more. Golden Pursuits was created to get players involved in different parts of the game and add topical activities to events and more. The themes might be centered around PvP, Housing, Dungeons, exploring Tamriel or whichever topics the developers feel like highlighting to the player base. All activities and rewards are account-wide.
Imperial City Vendor and Trophy Vault Changes
With ESO Update 44 the Imperial City Tel Var Merchants wares were streamlined and the Trophy Vault Chests were replaced by a Dremora Vendor called Tur. Imperial City item-sets can now be bought as either uncurated or curated meaning you can pay less Tel Var and get random pieces of your item-set or pay more Tel Var and get only the item-set pieces you are missing. Tel Var acquisition and loss has not been changed, you still lose half of the Tel Var you carry when you die inside the Imperial City or its sewers.
