Enchantments, Glyphs and Runes in ESO (Elder Scrolls Online)

Enchantments, Glyphs and Runes in ESO (Elder Scrolls Online)

Welcome to the ESO Enchantments & Glyphs overview page. In this category of the website you can find all information about the Enchantments & Glyphs system in the Elder Scrolls Online. Enchanting is unlocked by interacting with the Enchanting crafting station.

These stations can be found in any city and even in player housing, if players have bought an Enchanting crafting station for their home.

With the Enchanting crafting station you can create glyphs from runes. Glyphs are enchantments which are either applied on gear, jewelry or weapons. The combination of runes used to craft a glyph decides the quality, effects and level of the final glyph.

Frequently asked questions

How do you enchant in ESO?

In order to  enchant an item, you need a glyph in your inventory first that matches the current level of your gear. Then you go and right-click on the item, select "Enchant" and then choose the glyph you want to enchant it with.

Why enchant in ESO?

In order to make your character stronger you need to enchant your gear or weapons with glyphs. These will help you along the way of leveling a character and will make you even stronger in the endgame.

Is enchanting good in ESO?

Yes, enchanting is an extremely good skill to have and not enchanting your gear or weapons is a real waste of resources and damage you could be dealing to your foes!

How do you get Enchanting in ESO?

You have to find the crafting station for glyphs and use it. From there you can either craft your own or deconstruct them. Deconstructing high level glyphs or glyphs from other players gives the best crafting EXP!

How long do enchantments last in ESO?

The good news is that enchantments last forever! Or as long as you are using the gear or weapon.

Why Enchanting is Important in ESO

Some weapons and armor have magical properties called traits that will enhance the item's performance in many different ways. Most weapons and armor can have magical properties added or altered by enchanting that item with a Glyph. Weapons with enchantments hold a charge that depletes with use. When an item's charge is depleted, the item's magical properties will cease to function until its charge is replenished using a Soul Gem.

Some weapons and armor can be enchanted, or have their enchantments replaced with new enchantments. To do this you will need to create Glyphs at an Enchanting Table, found in most cities and other special locations throughout the world, such as player housing. To enchant an item you have to open your inventory by pressing the key that is bound to that action. Right-click the item you wish to enchant and select "Enchant" from the menu. Double-click the enchantment you wish to apply, then confirm and accept the change.

You can also extract glyphs by opening the extraction tab at an Enchanting table. Choose a glyph from your inventory to perform an extraction. Remember that performing the extraction process will destroy the glyph. Not every glyph yields an extraction result, especially not if you crafted it yourself and want to deconstruct it. If you want to get the maximum Inspiration (crafting experience) from a glyph, either guy one from a guild vendor or ask a player to craft them for you.

Also, the more you combine, the more you learn about the runes and learn to craft all kinds of glyphs. So don't be afraid to combine them like you want to, this will also give you crafting experience in that skill line.

Runes in ESO

The Elder Scrolls Online’s crafting system can sometimes be very complex and rich in variations. Enchanting features a lot of runes from which a player can choose. The base is always the same though. Players need three of each: a potency rune, an essence rune and an aspect rune. Depending on how you combine them, their traits and level will change.

Potency Rune: This rune is needed to choose the strength of it and the level it needs to be cast on the gear. They can be either subtractive or additive.

Essence Rune: This rune determines the magical effect that the enchant has.

Aspect Rune: This rune determines the quality of the glyph and how effective a rune is. The color chosen reflects the quality level of the glyph.
