Champion Point System

Champion Point System

Released: March 3, 2015 - PC/Mac - Patch Notes

With this update, we finally get to experience the game on several new levels. We were getting introduced to the Justice System, which allows us to commit criminal actions throughout Tamriel such as theft, pickpocketing, and assaulting and murdering NPCs and getting punished for it. There are many moving pieces to this system including locked houses, a bounty system, outlaw refuges, safeboxes, NPC and guard reactions, consequences, and a new skill line, among other facets to the system. If you want to read more about it, you can check out this article.

There was also a massive gameplay rebalance, in which Soft Caps were removed from the game. Diminishing returns on stats such as resource recovery were in place before this, and Heavy/Medium/Light armors now have different physical protection values. Many stamina morphs have been introduced to make stamina builds more viable. Update Six brings us the long-awaited Champion System, complete with an entirely new interface in which you can use points to unlock passive abilities. This introduces a whole new level of player progression to the game. There are three guardian constellations of The Warrior, The Mage and The Thief. In total there are 36 passives you can invest points into, and an additional 36 passives that unlock as you invest more into each constellation.

This patch also brought us a major revamp of the Provisioning system, alleviating inventory capacity burdens significantly. It also introduced the Collections UI, which took pets and costumes from inventories and put them in their own interface along with Mounts. Prior to this update, provisioning ingredients were leveled items. You could only find certain ingredients at a low level and only certain ingredients at a higher level. Provisioning recipes would only use items from the appropriate level, but it was complex and confusing, as well as being difficult to manage. With the changes made to the system, ingredients can be used at any level and the tiered system is gone, as well as all alliance-specific recipes.

In addition to these major changes, developers went to effort to make interactables in the game more intuitive. If you interact with an apple basket, you get apples. This may seem clear, but before Update 6 you would get a random ingredient from provisioning containers, so something that would appear to be a basket of melons could instead yield red meat. 40 new provisioning interactables have been added to the world, such as hanging game and loose produce. These efforts contribute to making Tamriel feel much more immersive.
