ESO Season Zero: Dawn and Dusk is The Elder Scrolls Online's first seasonal content release, introducing a new three-month content model where all gameplay systems are free with the base game.

ESO Update 49 Timetable (March 2026)

Update 49 is the base game patch. Season Zero starts later. They are not the same thing and they don't launch on the same day. Here's what goes live when.

(2 items) Dealing damage with a Bash or Heavy Attack deals 812 Frost damage over 8 seconds to the enemy. This effect can occur once every 8 seconds. If the effect completes, the enemy applies Minor Brittle to up to 6 enemies within 12 meters of itself for 10 seconds. If the enemy dies, the enemy releases glittering energy, restoring 847 Magicka and Stamina to you and group members within 12 meters of the defeated enemy.

(5 items) Dealing direct damage generates a stack of Gorethief for 30 seconds, up to 10 stacks. While you have Gorethief equipped, Roll Dodge consumes 1 stack and heals you for 2021 Health, scaling off your Max Health. At max stacks, while you have Gorethief equipped, bash an enemy to consume all stacks and deal 2144 Bleed Damage, scaling off the higher of your Weapon or Spell Damage, to enemies within 8 meters of you.

(1 item) Dealing direct damage generates a stack of Gorethief for 30 seconds, up to 10 stacks. While you have Gorethief equipped, Roll Dodge consumes 1 stack and heals you for 2021 Health, scaling off your Max Health. At max stacks, while you have Gorethief equipped, bash an enemy to consume all stacks and deal 2144 Bleed Damage, scaling off the higher of your Weapon or Spell Damage, to enemies within 8 meters of you.

(1 item) Increase your damage done with status effects by 1% for every 1 Ultimate you have, up to 170%. Both the current and maximum damage done is halved against Players. While you have 170 or more Ultimate, your Light and Heavy Attacks apply a random status effect, up to once every 4 seconds. Applies Minor Timidity to you, consuming 1 Ultimate every 1.5 seconds while in combat.

(2 items) Taking or dealing direct damage grants you a stack of Skirmish for 10 seconds. You can gain Skirmish every 1 second, up to 10 stacks. Lose 1 stack every 5 seconds when not taking or dealing damage. At max stacks, you no longer gain or lose stacks of Skirmish and you gain Major Protection, Major Expedition, and Major Force for 10 seconds. When max Skirmish ends, your Stamina, Magicka, and Health Recovery are reduced by 422 for 10 seconds.

(2 items) Dealing direct critical damage applies Shived to the enemy, dealing 1079 Bleed damage and increasing their damage taken from you by 2% for 15 seconds. This damage scales off the higher of your Weapon or Spell Damage. When the enemy dies, Shived is reapplied to the lowest health enemy within 12 meters of the corpse and increases the damage taken by 2%, up to 8%. You may only have 1 enemy with Shived.

ESO Update 49: What Goes Live on March 9

Everything below is permanent. These changes landed with the Update 49 base game patch on March 9 and are not tied to the seasonal schedule.

ESO Systems Changing on March 9 Patch Day

Event Tickets become Trade Bars. On your first login after the ESO Update 49 patch, all existing Event Tickets automatically convert at 1 Ticket = 100 Trade Bars.

Endeavors and Daily Login Rewards are gone. Both systems stopped at the beginning of March, but their interfaces are getting fully removed on patch day.

ESO Dragonknight and Two-Handed Combat Refresh

The Dragonknight class and Two-Handed Weapon Skill Line both received a full visual, audio and balance pass in ESO Update 49. 

  • Every Dragonknight ability has updated visuals, animations and sounds
  • Fiery Breath renamed to Dragonfire Breath iconDragonfire Breath among many other skill changes
  • Poison damage skills now do flame damage instead
  • Multiple abilities moved between skill lines and rebalanced
  • Two-Handed weapon skills received a full visual refresh in ESO
  • Respecs are free now, so you can change your ESO Build however much you want

DLC's and Class Added to ESO Base Game

Four DLC's are now part of the ESO base game alongside the Warden Class. These don't need to be claimed from the Crown Store, they will just be available for everyone from the get go.

ESO Update 49 Quality-of-Life Changes

The majority of the patch is Quality-of-life Changes that the ESO Player Experience team has worked hard on. All of these go live with ESO Update 49 on March 9, right after the maintenance finishes.

Character Progression

Inventory and Banking

  • Bag and bank upgrade costs reduced by ~50%
  • Bag space is upgradeable directly from the inventory screen
  • Both old and new treasure maps now stack up to 200 and are consumed on chest open

Mounts and Travel

  • 17 mounts now sold for gold at ESO Stablemasters, including the new Ebon Dwarven Horse iconEbon Dwarven Horse
  • Existing base mounts reduced to 25,000 gold
  • Stable training grants 3 upgrades per visit instead of 1
  • Crown Riding Lessons still grant 1 upgrade

Outfit and Appearance 

  • Outfit slots now account-wide in ESO, additive up to 10 total
  • Hide Armor expanded to chest, gloves, boots, belt and pants at Outfit Stations
  • 11 new Dragonknight Skill Styles can be bought from Stylemasters

Vampire and Werewolf Quest Givers

  • New discoverable shrines with Vampire and Werewolf quest NPCs in Auridon, Glenumbra and Stonefalls
  • Previously cured ESO players can instantly regain vampirism without the quest
  • Crown Store bites removed, cures now 0 Crowns

  • Werewolf Refresh is NOT coming in Update 49.

Guild and Economy

  • Guild trader listings restored to 30 days in ESO (was 14)
  • Guild name repping without tabards via Character Screen dropdown (per-character)
  • Vendor sort improved: unpurchasable items are now at to bottom
  • Mimic Stones and Outfit Tokens removed from Crown Store (moving to Gold Coast Bazaar and Tamriel Tomes later)

Increased Housing Limits

Over half of all ESO homes received higher furnishing limits. Some homes moved up a size category and all homes within a category now share the same slot count.

  • Staple: 75/150 traditional, 2/4 special, 10/20 collectible, 2/4 special collectible, player cap 6
  • Classic: 250/500 traditional, 4/8 special, 25/50 collectible, 4/8 special collectible, player cap 12
  • Notable: 350/700 traditional, 5/10 special, 55/110 collectible, 5/10 special collectible, player cap 24

Crafting and Antiquities

  • Trait research times cut by over 50% in ESO, max timer capped at 10 days (down from 30)
  • Antiquity lead timers doubled or more across all difficulties

ESO PvP Changes in Update 49

Cyrodiil and Battlegrounds both received updates in ESO Update 49.

  • New PvP set: Gorethief iconGorethief - Stacking direct damage with roll dodge heal and bash AoE bleed
  • Roads in Cyrodiil now grant a movement speed bonus while out of combat (mounted and on foot)
  • Leaderboards expanded to 500 entries, no longer have class assignments
  • 3-sided Battlegrounds return during Battleground Weekend events
  • Imperial City: cannot queue for another campaign while holding 100+ Tel Var

Other U49 Changes

  • Zone Guide now lets you pick specific location types to track in ESO
  • Improved gamepad UI and accessibility

New Furnishing Plans Added in Update 49

55 new furnishing plans sourced across four locations:

  1. 7 new Master Writ furnishings, Purchased from Rolis Hlaalu. (View Furnishing)
  2. 34 new structural furnishing plans can be acquired via the Solstice Reward Coffer, obtainable by completing the Solstice World Boss, or Delve Daily Quests. (View Furnishing)
  3. 13 new furnishings plans can be found in the Deadlands, Fargrave, and the Night Market from monsters, containers and more across Tamriel. (View Furnishing)

New ESO Plus Benefits in Update 49

ESO Plus receives several new benefits on top of existing perks with Update 49.

  • Transmute Crystal cap tripled to 3,000 (previously 1,000)
  • Doubled Antiquities lead timers on top of the already-increased base timers
  • +10% Tome Points from challenges (when Tamriel Tomes launches April 2)
  • 1 Premium Tome Token per month (12 tokens = 1 free Premium Tome of your choice)
  • Solstice DLC now included in ESO Plus

ESO Season Zero: Rolling Content Schedule (April 2 - July 8)

Tamriel Tomes: ESO's New Battle Pass System

Tamriel Tomes new seasonal progression system, replacing several older reward structures in The Elder Scrolls Online. It launches April 2, 2026 with the start of Season Zero.

Gold Coast Bazaar and Trade Bars in ESO

The Gold Coast Bazaar is a new in-game shop located inside the Crown Store interface where you spend Trade Bars on legacy rewards and limited-time collectibles.

What's in the Bazaar:

  • Daily Login rewards (from the old system)
  • Event collectibles
  • Promotional rewards (Twitch Drops, Prime Gaming items)

The Night Market: ESO's First Event Zone

The Night Market is ESO's first Event Zone, a limited-time high-difficulty PvE area designed for group content. It takes place in Fargrave and runs from April 29 through June 17, 2026.

ESO Werewolf Skill Line Refresh

Werewolf skill line gets refreshed with updated visuals and animations, including ESO's first-ever female werewolf model.

Challenge Difficulty: ESO's New Overland System

Late in Season Zero (May/June), ESO introduces Challenge Difficulty, an optional system that lets you increase the difficulty of overland content for better rewards. It does not apply to dungeons, trials, Infinite Archive or the Night Market

Challenge Difficulty tiers in ESO

  • Adventurer: Default difficulty, no changes to damage or rewards
  • Seasoned: Take 100% more damage, deal 20% less. Rewards +50% gold and +20% XP
  • Master: Take 300% more damage, deal 50% less. Rewards +100% gold and +75% XP
  • Vestige: Take 600% more damage, deal 80% less. Rewards +200% gold and +100% XP

Design Principles:

  • Completely opt-in - you choose your tier at any time.
  • No instances - all players share the same world regardless of difficulty setting
  • Scalability - system designed to expand to more content types in future seasons
  • Additional rewards may come through Golden Pursuits and other progression systems after launch

Vengeance PvP Progression in ESO Season Zero

Vengeance is ESO's new PvP progression system arriving late May/June. Rank up and earn new rewards regardless of whether you PvP in Battlegrounds, Imperial City or Cyrodiil's campaigns.

Rewards include:

  • Unique armor and weapon visuals
  • New titles
  • Vengeance-specific perks through the Veterancy system

Is Season Zero free in ESO?
Yes. All major Season Zero systems are available to every player with the base game. Optional cosmetics and premium Tamriel Tomes tracks are purchasable but not required.

How long is a season?
Season Zero runs from April 2 to July 8, 2026 (approximately three months). Future seasons will follow similar three-month cycles.

What happens to Update 49 improvements?
All Update 49 quality-of-life improvements are permanent additions to the base game and remain after Season Zero ends.
