Build Explaination

Hello!

Welcome to my Sorcerer tank build! It's still a work in progress, but hopefully you'll find this useful and fun. If you like this build, feel free to check out some of my other builds for healing and DPS.

Enjoy!

I currently have three skill options, one with a pet, one without, and one with beginner gear. The champion points are listed under the Powerful Assault set up.

Attribute points on a tank are fairly forgiving. What I put down is a suggestion, go with what works best for you. You want at least 35K health and more stamina than magicka. As long as you meet both conditions, you can experiment.

Mundus stones are also flexible on a tank. The classic option is the Lord, for extra health. The Lady looks like a good option at first glance, but often you can hit max resistances without using the Lady, so it's not the best unless you are at a low CP level. If you have sustain issues, the Serpent is a great option. An underrated mundus for a tank is the Steed, especially if you're using the Bracing Anchor CP slottable. It provides bonus health recovery (very important for a tank) and a speed buff (this helps offset the movement penalty from Bracing).

Gear:

Monster set: There's no single ‘meta’ Monster set for a tank. You can be quite flexible for most content, depending on what you're facing. There are a number of good options.

Tremorscale: This reduces your target's armor on taunt, scaling off your resistances with a short cooldown. This is a fairly easy set to get, and it doesn't have any siginificant drawbacks.

Archdruid Devyric: Two words, Major Vulnerability. Need I say anymore?

Lord Warden: Basically, Bloodspawn with a better uptime. It is AOE based, unlike Bloodspawn, which can be a problem for a few boss fights, like Symphony of Blades in vet DoM hard mode. However, fights where Lord Warden's AOE is a problem are few and far between.

Bloodspawn: non-AoE Lord Warden, with ult generation. For harder content, where you're saving your ultimate for the right moment in boss fights, this isn't as strong, as the ult generation is wasted.

Nazaray, ult debuff abuse. All major and minor debuffs get extended by 1 second per 20 ultimate spent. This one does require some coordination with your group members, as you want to cast your ult when the debuffs are about to expire for maximum effect.

For beginner monster sets, I'd recommend Engine Guardian, for sustain; Scourge Harvester, for healing; or Bloodspawn.

Claw of Yolnahkriin: Grants minor courage to 11 other group members on taunt. This is a great set for any content. A real must-have.

Powerful Assault: Another nice buff to weapon and spell damage. Again, a really strong set, and you can easily backbar it with vigor on your backbar as your heal.

Puncturing Remedy: A nice way to layer some healing as you proc Yolnahkriin.

Turning Tide: This is not a trial set, and it's a reliable way to proc Major Vulnerability. You only get around 50% uptime, but that can be extended with Nazaray.

Saxhleel Champion: This turns any ult you cast into a warhorn by procing Major Force on ult cast, 1 second per 15 ult spent.

Alkosh: A nice debuff to your enemy's resistances. If you don't have this (It's another trial set) Crimson Oath's Rive is a good alternate. It does nearly the same thing, but it's a lot easier to farm.

Please note that none of the perfected sets are necessary, the perfected bonus for all is fairly minor.

If you're new to tanking, there are several easy to farm sets that can be quite useful. Ebon Armory: this used to be meta until the health buff way back when. It's so easy to farm that it's worth having, though. Eternal Vigor: A nice set to increase your survivability and sustain. Plus, it's an overland set, so you can buy it fairly easily. Plague Doctor: health, health, and more health. Great for beginner tanks. Fortified Brass: tons of armor, plus some health. Also great for a beginner, and you can craft it.
