Guide

Build Explanation

There are a lot of small little changes we can make and you should be ready to make those adjustments when needed.
Of course this doesn't mean you need every single tank set out there to even begin, that's beyond silly.
Instead, we're going to be using one Trial set that is relatively easy to farm thanks to the popularity of it. (vLC and vDSR)

This is not the most "optimal" that you can get, but it is a very comfortable setup for progging all content thanks to the incredible durability and self-sustain the Templar has access to as of U50 thanks to the class mastery system.

Before we go into anything else regarding the build, we should look into our Scribing Skills first and foremost.
The first one we will talk about is Ulfsild's Contingency iconUlfsild's Contingency as this is one of our most important Scribed Skills we have to edit.

We have two options, one is adding a damage shield to it as our affix, the other is to use immobilizing instead.
I personally prefer running with the damage shield as I find immobilize to be all too commonly resisted by enemies where it'd matter most, as most trash packs aren't dangerous enough to warrant it, that and your snares and proximity to the enemies after using yourVoid Bash iconVoid Bash to group enemies together usually have them staying close to you anyways.

Regardless of your choice we will be straying from the usual option of granting it some damage reduction and instead go for [Growing Impact] as it allows more of our members who stray from you to be able to peek in for the Minor Resolve buff.

Our second scribed skill is Soul Burst iconSoul Burst where we can choose between having another damage shield or a heal. If you are replacing a healer in a dungeon I would recommend the latter, as our front bar 3 is a flex slot and may be used for Extended Ritual iconExtended Ritual in certain fights with debuffs that need cleansing or high mobility fights.

Our last scribed skill is one we can interchange for a relatively similar setup but with access to guaranteed Minor Breach through the [Sundered] debuff, and that would be Elemental Explosion iconElemental Explosion and Trample iconTrample.

Trample iconTrample is setup to be using [Frost Damage], [Assassin's Misery], and finally [Cowardice] though you could use Heroism if you prefer that, though our ult generation is already through the roof.

The main reason we prefer Elemental Explosion iconElemental Explosion for most content where enemies aren't immune to [Chilled] is due to the fact we gain on average more debuffs per cast compared to Trample iconTrample.

For boss fights I recommend using Wizard's Wardrobe as we will be swapping to Druid's Braid iconDruid's Braid and Armor of the Trainee iconArmor of the Trainee for our frontbar and exchanging Power Bash iconPower Bash for Wield Soul iconWield Soul and for our backbar we are swapping Razor Caltrops iconRazor Caltrops for Elemental Susceptibility iconElemental Susceptibility.

Your debuff rotation at the start of every fight looks something like this: Apply Major Cowardice from Shield Throw iconShield Throw and Major Maim throughVoid Bash iconVoid Bash or Wield Soul iconWield Soul. Swap to backbar and cast Elemental Explosion iconElemental Explosion or Trample iconTrample, cast whichever ult (swap around the two base ults based on what you prefer),  cast Razor Caltrops iconRazor Caltrops and Elemental Blockade iconElemental Blockade.

Refresh the buffs you cast before the fight, and keep everything else up.

Other skills that can be useful to bring are Radiant Aura iconRadiant Aura/Repentance iconRepentance, Radiant Ward iconRadiant Ward, Blazing Spear iconBlazing Spear, and finally there are some niche use cases available for Explosive Charge iconExplosive Charge.

As a note, with U51 we will have far more resistances than we'd need, so the [Reinforced] trait on our armor may get replaced with [Divines] for the extra sustain, you may do so with the helmet as well if you prefer that over the gain in overall stats.

ESO Hub does not actually list all of the buffs and debuffs that are provided with many builds, so please refer to the individual status effects each ability has available to them.

As a final note, Bastion of Light iconBastion of Light is a great replacement for any of your other class masteries should the need arise.
