What Is Veterancy in ESO?

Veterancy is a free PvP progression system in ESO that ranks players up based on Alliance Points and XP earned in Cyrodiil, Imperial City and Battlegrounds. Launching with Update 50, it rewards long-term PvP players with exclusive titles, outfit styles, skill styles and Vengeance perks.

ZOS designed Veterancy as a "badge of honor" for PvP veterans, in the words of Brian Wheeler, Project Design Director for Combat & PvP. The goal is to give the competitive community a visible progression path that reflects the time players spend in ESO's PvP content. Alliance War rank alone has never captured that.

How ESO Veterancy Works

Here's how the system works:

  • Veterancy levels are earned through Alliance Points (primary source) and XP (secondary, at a reduced rate) in any PvP area: Cyrodiil, Imperial City and Battlegrounds
  • Dueling and Tribute do not count toward Veterancy progression
  • Progression is account wide, so every character you play contributes to the same track
  • A Veterancy season lasts approximately six months, or roughly six campaign cycles
  • Progression is fast through the early ranks, with players expected to reach rank 50 quickly before the curve flattens
  • Players participating in the Vengeance Campaign also earn Vengeance-specific perks through the Veterancy system

ESO Veterancy Rewards

Veterancy rewards fall into several categories:

  • Outfit styles (armor and weapons) exclusive to the Veterancy system
  • Skill styles exclusive to the Veterancy system
  • Titles, both seasonal and permanent
  • Vengeance perks
  • Tel Var Stones
  • Transmute Crystals
  • Trade Bars
  • Gold
  • PvP Merit Marks
  • Crafting materials
  • XP scrolls

Title and milestone rules:

  • Titles earned below rank 50 are temporary and tied to the current Veterancy season
  • Ranks 50 and 100 each unlock a permanent title that carries over between seasons
  • A repeatable reward becomes available after rank 100 for players who keep grinding past the cap

Vengeance Perks and the New ESO PvP Rank Icon

Vengeance perks work differently from the rest of the Veterancy track.

  • Vengeance perks are front-loaded into the early Veterancy ranks and stop at rank 33
  • They are intended to reward participation in the Vengeance Campaign specifically, rather than general PvP grind
  • A new Veterancy rank icon replaces the Champion Point icon on PvP target frames, shown alongside the existing alliance rank icon

When you target another player in Cyrodiil, Imperial City or Battlegrounds, you see their Veterancy rank instead of their CP level. PvP veterans are easier to spot on the battlefield.
