On the 4th and the 5th of April 2024 we visited the celebration event for ESO's 10th birthday in Amsterdam. During this event we had the opportunity to test the new Gold Road chapter. During our test we got insight into the new scribing system, as well as skill styling and new item sets.
New Item Sets
Gold Road comes with 13 new item sets in total. These are subdivided in 4 Trial sets (+ perfected versions) obtainable in Lucent Citadel, 3 overland sets obtainable in the West Weald, 3 new mythic sets and 3 new crafted sets. Unfortunately we were not able to gather any data on the crafted sets.

- Overland: West Weald Overland Heavy Set

- Mythic: Gold Road Mythic Necklace
Note that the names of these sets have not yet been released, so they currently just have placeholder names.
Skill Styles
Various skills in the game will get colour variations that can be added to them, in order to change their appearance. These skill styles will go into your collectibles tab, and can be assigned to the appropriate skills in the skills menu. We currently know of the following skill styles:
- Barrier, blue
- Blessing of Protection, blue
- Cleave, red
- Dawnbreaker, dark purple
- Entropy, yellow
- Expert Hunter, red
- Force Shock, negative
- Grand Healing, purple
- Low Slash, orange
- Magelight, green
- Meteor, orange
- Poison Arrow, red
- Regeneration, blue
- Reverse Slash, red
- Snipe, red
- Soul Trap, purple
- Trap Beast, illuminating
- Vigor, blue
- Wall of Elements, purple
- War Horn, orange
- Weakness to Elements, purple
- Whirlwind, orange
All of these styles also apply to any of the morphs of the listed skills.
Scribing and Scribing Skills
Scribing is a new system that comes with a bunch of new skills. These skills can be modified with various effects, like buffs, debuffs, damage and healing types. Ultimately you can add three effects to each skill. You are also not limited on how many scribing skills you can use. You can have both the Mages Guild skill Contingency as well as the Destruction Staff skill Elemental Explosion on your bar at the same time.
This system comes tied with its own questline, and you will need to find and unlock various parts of these skills in order to use them. This quest line takes us back to an old zone, Eyevea.
Here is a list of the base skills of the scribing system:
- Contingency in the Mages Guild line
- Elemental Explosion in the Destruction Staff line
- Mender's Bond in the Restoration Staff line
- Shield Throw in the One Hand and Shield line
- Smash in the Two Handed line
- Soul Burst in the Soul Magic line
- Torchbearer in the Fighters Guild line
- Trample in the Assault line
- Traveling Knife in the Dual Wield line
- Vault in the Bow line
- Wield Soul in the Soul Magic line
All these skills can be modified with effects, damage and healing. Each skill has a specific set of options. Shield Throw can get a taunt effect, but this taunt effect cannot be added to Elemental Explosion for instance. So while the options are vast, not all combinations are possible. So if you were looking for a restoration staff taunt, this will still not help you out.
The scribing skills can be modified at the so called "Scribing Altar". Which is a new interactable station that can currently only be found on Eyevea. However, I think it is safe to say this station will at some point come as a furnishing item in one form or another.
