Why Doesn't ZOS Increase the Furnishing Cap in ESO Housing?

Why Doesn't ZOS Increase the Furnishing Cap in ESO Housing?
Housing has been a large element of the Elder Scrolls Online for several years now, ever since it was introduced in the Homestead patch. As more houses and furnishings were added to the game, players were able to create ever more thematic and elaborate houses, making for a fun and engaging pastime for some.

One limiting factor to housing though has always been the furnishing cap - the largest houses in the game have a cap of 700 furnishings, which for some players simply isn't enough to decorate each part of their home in the level of detail that they want.

So why is this limit in place, and could it change at any point in the future?

Why is There a Furnishing Cap in ESO's Housing?

It does stand to reason that there needs to be a furnishing cap at some point - every piece of furniture that one places in a home needs to be stored on a database by Zenimax, and needs to be loaded and rendered by the client when someone visits the house, so if the number of furnishings was unlimited then this could cause performance problems and memory issues both on the client and server side. But why is it set to 700?

The answer is that Zenimax still wants to support ESO on last-generation consoles, and these devices are not able to support more than 700 furnishings in houses due to their hardware limitations. But perhaps there could be a better way of dealing with this issue.

Obviously, ESO has different megaservers for PC and consoles, so why not raise the cap for furnishings in houses on the PC megaservers?

Alternatively, large houses on consoles could be split into two or more separate areas, such as an exterior and an interior, each with their own furnishing cap. This would cause a loading screen when going between areas though as the console would need to load the assets in each area when transitioning between them, which could get annoying if you are moving around in your house a lot. This option would allow for higher furnishing caps in a house overall though.

These are just my ideas, perhaps other players can think of something better. There seems to be no sign for the time being that Zenimax is planning on raising the furnishing cap, so unfortunately players will just have to make-do with what we have for now.
