The Worst Mythic in ESO High Isle? A Look at the Dov-Rha Sabatons

The Dov-Rha Sabatons is the final Mythic item in ESO High Isle that we have not covered yet. With the release of High Isle just a week away, it's time to finally have a look at it.

What Are the Dov-Rha Sabatons in ESO High Isle?

The Dov-Rha Sabatons is a Mythic item that will be obtainable by players who have access to both Greymoor (for the Scrying and Excavation skill lines) and High Isle (for the leads and Mythic itself).

As the name suggests, this Mythic takes up the shoes slot on your character. But what does it actually do?

In continuation with the recent infatuation with items that involve a stacking mechanic in recent years, the Dov-Rha Sabatons will give you a stack of a new buff called Draconic Scales when you are sprinting. You get a stack every 0.5 seconds, and you can have up to 20 of them. Each stack gives you 660 armor, which translates to 1% damage mitigation per stack.

When you stop sprinting, you do a very small amount of AOE damage around your character for each stack, and this damage will also stun the enemies you hit if you managed to build up all 20 stacks before releasing them. You will retain the armor buff from the stacks for 10 seconds, and after this time expires you will be able to generate new stacks to repeat the effects of the Mythic item.

Are the Dov-Rha Sabatons any good?

Firstly, I have to reiterate that the damage from the AOE shockwave is absolutely terrible. Negligible is the ideal word to describe it. I tested it out on the same character that I used for my Oakensoul Ring tests, a pure damage spec character, and even on this guy the shockwave isn't doing enough damage to defeat a mudcrab, not even close actually.

The Dov-Rha Sabatons failed the Mudcrab Test! The Dov-Rha Sabatons failed the Mudcrab Test!So what is this Mythic item actually good for? I think the intended purpose, and to be honest the only possible viable purpose of the Dov-Rha Sabatons is for kiting multiple attackers in PvP, then eventually turning around to attack them when you in a more favorable situation. The armor stacks are actually quite nice, you can get up to 20% damage mitigation from them (assuming you weren't already reaching the resistance cap of 33,000), and the buff persists for 10 seconds after you stop sprinting, which is more than enough time for an experienced PvP player to do fatal burst damage.

This is all well and good, but there is a problem. You can only equip one Mythic item at a time, so any Mythic item is immediately competing with all other Mythic Items, meaning it has to be the best option for a player in a given role or scenario to be worth using. PvP players are currently making use of the Markyn Ring of Majesty to get buffs to their armor and damage which do not have a stacking mechanic or timer on them. You just equip the ring, fulfil its requirements and you get the buffs. Is Dov-Rha going to be chosen for its very niche and finicky armor buff when there are much more consistent and reliable options in the game already? Well time will tell, but I doubt it personally.

However, I certainly hope that someone finds a use for this and proves me wrong.
