What is the Writhing Wall Event & How to Participate

The Writhing Wall is a dynamic, live event that’s part of the Seasons of the Worm Cult storyline. Your megaserver's collective effort determines the event's timeline. It continues until the community brings down the wall, permanently opening up the rest of the Solstice zone. You can check your server's progress at any time in the Group & Activity Finder when the event is live.

  • Server-Wide Community Effort: This challenge requires all players on a megaserver to work together to complete tasks and push back the Worm Cult threat. Every individual action directly contributes to the server's overall progression meter.
  • Permanent Zone Unlock: The event is the climactic conclusion of the Solstice main story. Its primary purpose is to shatter the massive, soul-forged magical barrier (the Writhing Wall) and permanently unlock the Eastern Solstice zone for everyone on that server.
  • Independent Progression: Each ESO megaserver (e.g., PCNA, PCEU) progresses through the event phases independently. They can finish at different times based on their community's participation. You can check your server's progress in the Group & Activity Finder or on a dedicated website.

How to Participate in the Battle for the Writhing Wall

To begin your contribution to the Battle for the Writhing Wall, follow these steps to join the front lines and access the event-specific quests:

  1. Open the in-game Crown Store.
  2. Navigate to Quest Starters > Events.
  3. Acquire the free quest, "Support the Fellowship."
  4. Speak to Skordo the Knife to start your adventure. He can be found at the Stirk Fellowship Camp, either on Stirk Island (base game) or in Solstice (with the 2025 Content Pass).

While the event is active, you can also find Prince Azah outside the Solstice camp to pick up a new Zone Story Quest.

If you are reading this after the event has concluded, you will no longer be able to pick up the quest.

Do you need the ESO 2025 Content Pass to participate in the Writhing Wall Event

No! While the 2025 Content Pass is required to access most of the Solstice zone and complete achievements, base game players can still participate and earn Writhing reward coffers. Your contributions on Stirk Island directly help the war effort and count toward your server's progress.

How to unlock Eastern Solstice (Quests and phases)

Eastern Solstice is a content-rich zone in The Elder Scrolls Online and is the second half of the Solstice island, following the release of Western Solstice.

Here is the quick, step-by-step guide on how to gain access to Eastern Solstice.

Requirements: Own the Content

First and foremost, you must have access to the Seasons of the Worm Cult Part 2 content update. This is the update that contains the Eastern Solstice zone.

  • Content Pass: Access is granted to players who purchase the 2025 Content Pass. This grants instant access to all new content for that year, including both halves of the Solstice zone.
  • ESO Plus: If you are an ESO Plus subscriber, you will get access to new content in the year following its initial release.

Accessing Eastern Solstice through the Writhing Wall

It is important to note that participation in the live, cooperative event is not mandatory to continue the story.

  • During the Event: Players could travel to Solstice and join the climactic Phase 3 effort to physically break through the barrier.
  • After the Event Concludes: As the wall's destruction is a permanent, server-wide change, all subsequent players who complete the Western Solstice questline will find the wall already breached. This allows you to freely enter Eastern Solstice and continue the main quest from the west, regardless of whether you were present for the initial event.

If you missed this historic moment, you can read about the, phases, and rewards of this one-time event on our Writhing Wall Event Guide.

Chronological Live Event Phases

Here is the explanation of the phases that will happen during the live Battle for the Writhing Wall Event!

The Intro Quest

To begin the event, you must first pick up the "Support the Fellowship" introductory quest, which directs you to the starting location and NPC. (Available during the event)

Phase 1: Setting Up & Supplying

Phase 1 focuses on collecting resources and fortifying the camps to complete the construction of the Meridian Lens. Completing the repeatable daily quests below contributes to your server's overall Event meter. You can complete these quests multiple times per day on each of your characters.

Phase 2: The Assault Begins

Once Phase 1 concludes (signaled by the completion of the Meridian Lens), Phase 2 begins. The fight intensifies, and your focus shifts to charging the lens for a decisive strike.

  • Continued Support: Continue completing the Phase 1 daily activities to collect more Vitrified Souls and fully charge the Meridian Lens.
  • New Boss: A new World Boss named Ghishzor appears on the Solstice map. Killing this boss significantly contributes to the megaserver's progress bar.

Phase 3: The Final Assault

The conclusion of Phase 2 starts a short countdown timer to Phase 3, the direct assault to shatter the wall.

  • Final Quest Start: Travel to the Solstice Rampart Camp and speak with Skordo the Knife to start the main quest for this phase: "Crossing the Wall."
  • Writhing Fortress Instance: The Meridian Lens breaches the wall, opening a rift/portal into the Writhing Fortress.
  • Event Conclusion: The entire "Battle for the Writhing Wall" event ends for the server once the Writhing Fortress is cleared and the Soul Spire Core is destroyed. This action permanently breaches the Writhing Wall for all players on that megaserver, granting access to Eastern Solstice.
  • Note: The fortress instance is only accessible for a limited time (about one week) after Phase 2 concludes.

Event vs. Main Zone Storyline: Key Differences

It is important to understand the difference between the live community event's progression and your individual character's main story progression.

  • Separate Zone Story Quest: During the event, Prince Azah offers a separate new Zone Story Quest that can be started outside the Fellowship Camp in Solstice.
  • Not Mandatory for Story: Participation in the live community event and the "Crossing the Wall" instance is not mandatory to continue the main story of the "Seasons of the Worm Cult" saga. Players who miss the live event can still proceed through the zone's storyline afterward.
  • Permanent Access vs. Lore: Once the server completes the event, the wall is permanently breached for travel for everyone. However, the wall will visually remain for individual characters who have not yet reached that point in the main story, maintaining lore consistency.
  • Final Resolution: For your individual character, the wall will not visually come down until you complete the main story questline associated with its destruction. This final quest completion grants the Writhing Wall Remnant memento.

What happens after the Wall is destroyed?

The destruction of the Writhing Wall is the climactic conclusion of the server-wide community event (Phase 3) in the Seasons of the Worm Cult saga. This monumental event results in a permanent breach, unlocking new content, and acting as the narrative transition point to Part 2 of the story.

The destruction is achieved when the community successfully defeats titanic enemies inside the Worm Cult's stronghold, the Writhing Fortress, and destroys the Soul Spire Core located in the Monolith room, which is the source of the wall's power.

Story and Permanent Server Status Changes (The Breach)

The immediate aftermath of the successful community effort is a permanent, server-wide change that grants access to the Eastern part of the Solstice zone.

  • Permanent Breach and Zone Unlock: Once the Soul Spire Core is destroyed, the Writhing Wall is permanently breached for the entire megaserver. This breach does not respawn. The destruction immediately unlocks and grants access to the new zone, Eastern Solstice, which reveals entrenched Worm Cult strongholds.
  • Access to Eastern Solstice: Players who own the 2025 Content Pass can freely walk through the hole in the wall to enter Eastern Solstice. There are no loading screens when passing through the breach from Western to Eastern Solstice.
  • Partial Destruction (The Hole): The immediate result of the event is a visual change, a massive punch-through hole appears in the Wall. This initial breach is not the final end of the Writhing Wall, the rest of the Wall is still standing.
  • Server-Wide Moment: The moment the Wall is breached is a one-time event for the server. Players who are not logged in at that exact time will miss witnessing the event live.

Player Progression and Story Consistency

The overall narrative continues after the event phase, ensuring you can continue the saga regardless of your participation in the live event.

  • Lore Consistency: The Wall's removal is tied to individual story progression to ensure lore consistency. While the breach is a server moment, the wall will remain visually visible to individual players still progressing through the Western Solstice main story questline. The Wall fully comes down for the individual player only once they complete the relevant quest in the storyline.
  • Continuation of the Main Story: Eastern Solstice features a continuous main story questline, Part 2 of the Seasons of the Worm Cult, picking up from the western side. This saga requires players to investigate the dark legacy of the Stone-Nest Argonians and ultimately face the Worm Cult in a final decisive showdown.
  • Non-Mandatory Participation: If you missed the live cooperative event, you are not locked out of the main story. Completing the Western Solstice questline will find the Wall already breached, allowing them to continue the story into Eastern Solstice regardless of your participation in the live community effort.

Post-Event Content and Rewards Persistence

Once the limited-time event concludes, certain content and rewards can be acquired until Update 49 releases.

  • The Writhing Fortress instance itself and the associated event quest ("Crossing the Wall") will only be accessible for a limited time after the event concludes (one week) before winding down and becoming permanently inaccessible.
  • The exclusive title "Wall Breaker" is only available during the limited time the Writhing Fortress instance is active.
  • Siege Camp packs will continue and persist post-event through Update 48, allowing continued engagement with General Zasimba's repeatable daily jobs and providing players a chance to still earn associated rewards. (Mentioned on the ESO Dev Livestream in October 2025)
  • New Achievements and Collectibles: New achievements and collectibles associated with the newly accessible zone become available, including: The Writhing Wall Remnant memento (granted after completing the "Crossing the Wall" quest).
