Weekly ESO Set Spotlight: Curse Eater, Leeching Plate, Morag Tong
It’s time for our second installment of the ESO Hub Weekly Set Spotlight. In this weekly series we examine three item sets in the Elder Scrolls Online, review if they are any good and what potential uses they have. Today we are looking at Curse Eater, Leeching Plate and The Morag Tong.

Curse Eater Set in ESO

Curse Eater is a light armor set that can be bought from the Cropsford Elite Gear vendor in Cyrodiil. Your alliance needs to control Cropsford before you can access the gear vendor.

The set gives you a lot of magicka recovery which makes it ideal for healers to wear. The proc effect is most useful in PvP as the set’s location would suggest, allowing you to actively purge negative effects from yourself or allies. Negative effects include debuffs, snares and damage over time abilities. Users of this set may need to be a little more wary than in the past however, due to the possibility of setting off bombs from the Plaguebreak set.

Curse Eater also has a niche use case in PvE raids, most notably on the first boss of Halls of Fabrication. One common tactic for defeating this boss is to “ignore” the poison spheres in the middle of the room and just burn down the bosses one at a time. This tactic results in a large amount of poison on the group which needs to be constantly purged to stop people from dying, and putting Curse eater on one of the healers can help a great deal with this, although even with this set you should probably have a couple of people running Efficient Purge too just to be safe.

On the whole this is a pretty niche set but it definitely has uses which is nice to see.

Leeching Plate Set in ESO

We now move onto Leeching Plate, which is perhaps a slightly controversial tank set. It is obviously a set that is only useful for tanks, however tanks that run it may occasionally get criticized for using such a selfish set that does nothing for the group.

You can certainly get quite a lot of self healing in trash packs from this set, but is it something that tanks should use?

Well, my answer to that would be “it depends”. There really is no shame in using selfish options on your tank when you are learning, or just playing a fun thematic build in dungeons.

At a high level of gameplay, a tank is pretty much a buff and debuff machine that also has a taunt slotted, but you can’t be expected to focus on that when you are learning to tank. Your first priority must always be to stay alive and hold aggro on bosses and dangerous mobs, and if this set helps you to do that then by all means use it.

Just remember that there are other heavy armor sets like Claw of Yolnahkriin that boost your survivability while also buffing the group.

You can also consider this set if you are doing dungeons with no healer or your healer is not very good, causing you to have trouble keeping yourself alive with self-healing.

I’ve also seen this set used a couple of times on PvP “meme tanks”, or in other words, tanks that are built with the sole purpose of trolling zergs in Cyrodiil by presenting them with an almost immortal target. This set will probably only work for that in fairly enclosed spaces though, as out in the open people will usually just move out of the ground AOEs that the healing is sourced from.

If you want to try this set out then you can get it from bosses and chests in the Imperial City Prison dungeon.

The Morag Tong Set in ESO

The Morag Tong is a set that evokes some nostalgia for me, as I used to run it on my stamina Dragonknight in raids a very long time ago. It is a damage oriented support set that gives you some extra weapon or spell damage, and causes enemies that you damage to be 10% weaker to poison and disease attacks.

This effect used to be very good in optimized raid groups back when we had a stamina-dominated meta, and stamina Dragonknights would benefit from it especially due to their Venomous Claw and Noxious Breath abilities, however that meta is long gone and this set fell by the wayside as a result.

Maybe it could make a little bit of a comeback with the new hybridization changes that we got in Ascending Tide, as now for example many Magicka Dragonknights are using Venomous Claw because it gives them more damage output than Burning Embers.

If you have a lot of poison or disease damage in your group, then this set is worth considering at least, but for the vast majority of groups that just isn’t the case, which makes this probably the most niche set we have covered so far.

If you want to try this set, you can get it from the Bruma Elite Gear vendor in Cyrodiil.
