ESO Update 49 changed how outfit slots work across your account. Every slot you've purchased is now shared between all characters instead of locked to one. You can also hide five new armor pieces at Outfit Stations for free, bringing the total to seven hideable slots including helmets and shoulders. Both changes went live on March 9.

Account-Wide Outfit Slots in ESO
Before U49, outfit slots were locked to the character that purchased them. Now the outfit slots are shared across your entire ESO account (after you log into the characters that have the extra outfit slots). Your saved appearances stay character-specific though, so each character can still wear completely different looks in the same slot number.
All of this means that you no longer need to repurchase outfit slots for every character!
Example:
- Character A had 2 purchased slots.
- Character B had 3 purchased slots.
- Your account now has 6 total outfit slots (5 purchased + 1 free)
What About Players Who Bought More Than 10 Slots?
Players who purchased more than 10 outfit slots across their ESO characters have had their accounts reviewed individually by ZOS.
New Hide Armor Options in ESO Update 49
Before Update 49, you could only hide helmets and shoulders through the outfit station. This feature is completely free for all players.
All Hideable Armor Pieces in ESO
Update 49 adds five "Hide Armor" options you can apply for free at any outfit station.
All hide armor styles:
Other changes in ESO Update 49:
- Hide Shoulders is no longer sold by the Impresario's Assistant. All ESO players unlock it for free automatically.
- Armor hiding still requires an Outfit Station. You cannot toggle it from your inventory or settings.
What You Cannot Hide in ESO
The hide armor system in ESO has a few hard limits due to how the game handles character models.
- Weapons can't be hidden.
- Costumes and polymorphs override hide armor settings entirely. You cannot hide individual pieces within them.
- Hip attachments like tassets (flaps) are part of the chest armor model. There is no way to hide them separately.
- Additional hide options cannot be toggled in Collectible settings like helmets can, these can only be applied through the outfit station.
Planning Your ESO Outfits
Account-wide Outfit Slots combined with more hide options means even more styling options. If you bought Outfit Slots on multiple characters before Update 49, you'll benefit the most since those purchases now stack (up to 10).

- Plan which colors to unlock in the Dyes catalog
