The ESO High Isle PTS Confusion that Upset Some Players
By Andrew | 17 May 2022 |The final patch on the PTS launched this week, mainly including bug fixes without any major reworks or balance changes, meaning that what is currently on the PTS is most likely very similar to what will go live when High Isle releases on June 6th. However along with the patch notes, there was also some confusion that arose which caused some players to be a little bit unhappy with Zenimax until the confusion was addressed. So what was that all about?
What happened with the High Isle PTS?
The issue arose due to a misunderstanding about who would have access to the High Isle content on the PTS. In the patch notes for the latest PTS version, it was written that "only those who have pre-purchased High Isle will be able to access the content starting with this patch."This caused some discontent among ESO players who like to make use of the PTS for various purposes, including testing, bug reporting or just to get a head start learning the new content before it hits the live server. A thread was created saying that the announcement was "tone-deaf" and very unfair towards players who spent hours testing the chapter for free, and may now be locked out unless they pre-purchase the chapter.
However Gina Bruno, the ESO Community Manager, later replied to the thread clarifying that players who haven't pre-purchased can still access the High Isle content on the PTS, but will only be able to do so with template characters and not their characters transferred from the Live Server.
This is presumably to make sure that everything is working correctly with regards to who can access the chapter when it launches, as previously there have been some issues when a chapter released and some players who hadn't bought it had access to it, and some players who had bought it were still locked out of it.
It seems that this whole thing was just a bit of a miscommunication on the part of Zenimax and at the end of the day there is no harm done.
