ESO - All allies gain 30% Block Mitigation with the new Syrabane's Ward Mythic Item

ESO - All allies gain 30% Block Mitigation with the new Syrabane's Ward Mythic Item

The new Mythic Item set called Syrabane's Ward is a heavy armor belt piece and applies 30% block damage mitigation to your allies within 12 meters.

The Syrabane's Ward Mythic Item launches with the Firesong DLC in ESO (Elder Scrolls Online).

Description: "Later in life, Archmage Syrabane sought to perfect the obscure art of Mysticism. Endless lattices of protection layered within this clasp cause it to thrum with arcane power."

What does the Syrabane's Ward Mythic Item do?

The Tooltip of the Syrabane's Ward Mythic item in ESO says the following: You cannot move while Bracing. While Bracing, you create a 12 meter zone of protection. Allies within the zone increase their Block Mitigation by 30% and their Health Recovery by 950.

Syrabane's Ward Animation

The Syrabane's Ward animation creates a huge purple glowing circle around the person that wears the Mythic item. This makes it pretty obvious who stands in it or who doesn't. If you stop blocking the glow will disappear.

How to get the Syrabane's Ward Mythic Item in ESO?

To obtain the Syrabane's Ward Mythic item you will need to collect five different leads in ESO (Elder Scrolls Online).

After you have acquires all the leads for the Mythic item it will "craft" itself and you will find it in your inventory.

How good is Syrabane's Ward Mythic Set in ESO?

Lets take a look at how Syrabane's Ward actually works, because like with most sets in ESO, it does sound better than it actually is.

First off, the wearer doesn't benefit from the bonus. Only the allies around the wearer do get the 30% Block Mitigation and the 950 Health Recovery. You also can't move while the set is active, this means whenever you block you are locked into place, which is especially dangerous in PvP but also in PvE boss fights.

Not only that, but often the Tank doesn't stand close to the group so it is unlikely that most group members will gain the effect anyway. If the tank stands in the group that also means the boss faces all players and this will increase damage to the whole party and kill group members. Remember, Syrabane's Ward does only increase Block Mitigation, not the normal Damage Mitigation. So players would have to actually block to benefit from the bonus.

One place where the set could shine is when you are defending a flag in PvP, an extra 30% Block Mitigation can do wonders for allies around you.

  • Wearer doesn't benefit from the bonuses
  • You are locked into place while blocking
  • Tanks often not close to the group, because bosses have to look away from the group
  • Only increases Block Mitigation, not overall Damage Mitigation
  • Good for Flag Defense

Most damage dealers use shields like Harness Magicka or dodge roll powerful enemy attacks in ESO. They also do block certain attacks, but you already know whether it is going to kill you or not, an extra 30% won't likely change that.

What does that mean? Like with most new sets, they do sound nice but aren't really great. There is just better other sets or skills around that you can use. Most groups rather give group buffs that boost damage, rather than defense. As a tank if you want to gain more Block Mitigation you are likely to simply slot Defensive Stance which gives the same effect, just a smaller amount.
