What is Enchanting?

Chapter 1 / 7

The main goal of Enchanting Crafting is to craft powerful glyphs that increase your characters overall power. There is a wide variety of glyphs for armor, jewelry and weapons. To successfully craft glyphs in the Elder Scrolls Online you need to farm 3 different types of runes. Aspect Runes, Essence Runes and Potency Runes.

What does an Enchanter do?

An Enchanter gathers Runes found throughout the world. They can then use enchanting tables to assemble those runes into glyphs that can enhance items that are worn or wielded. Runes can also be extracted from glyphs by opening the extraction tab at an enchanting table. Choose a glyph from your Inventory to perform an extraction. Remember that performing an extraction process will destroy the glyph.

Enchanters create glyphs by combining runes of three different types, Potency, Aspect and Essence. Potency will determine the required level and strength of the resulting Glyph, Aspect will determine its quality, and Essence will determine its magical effect. A skilled enchanter will collect and combine any runes he finds in an effort to decipher their hidden language and unlock their magical properties.

How do I recognize Runes?

Here you can see a character picking up a runestone which had an Oke Essence and a Jejota Aspect rune in it.

Potency, Essence and Aspect Runes

Like mentioned above, there are three different types of runes. Potency decides on what level the rune will have and whether it is substractive or additive. Essence decides on what effect the crafted glyph will have and the Aspect Rune decides on the quality of the glyph.

Potency Runes

Potency runes decide on the level of the rune and whether it is substractive or additive.

  • Substractive: Negate Effect -
  • Additive:Intensify Effect +

For Example, I could use a Makderi Essence and a Kuta Aspect rune in combination with:

  • Repora Potency = Adds 174 Spell Damage
  • Itade Potency = Adds 927 Spell Resistance

Essence Runes

The Essence rune decides on what effect the glyph will have. For example:

  • Makderi = Spell harm
  • Oko = Health
  • Denima = Stamina Regen

Aspect Runes

The Aspect runes decide on what quality the glyph will have. There is a total of 5 different qualities.

Aspect Quality Color Quality Name
Ta White Base
Jejota Green Fine
Denata Blue Superior
Rekuta Purple Artifact
Kuta Gold Legendary

Glyphs

Once you get the right combination, you can create glyphs. For example here we created a:Truly Superb Glyph of Increase Magicla Harm"

  • Repora Potency Rune
  • Makderi Essence Rune
  • Kuta Aspect Rune

Extracting GlyphsYou can also extract glyphs to get runes back.

Praxis Furnishings

The enchanting table is also used to create certain furnishings. The tab is called "Praxis".

Crafting a furnishing functions the same as when you craft a glyph. You need to make sure to have the right ingredients, once that is covered you can craft the furnishing. In this example here we had the Hagraven Cauldron, Ritual crafted. Once we crafted it, we can place it in our home!
