What Are the Most Powerful New Dungeon Sets in Elder Scrolls Online's New Update? - ESO
The Ascending Tide update for Elder Scrolls Online (ESO) added some new dungeon sets. Which of these are the strongest, and what do they do?

In addition to the monster sets, the Ascending Tide update for ESO (Elder Scrolls Online) also added some new five-piece sets obtainable in the new dungeons, Coral Aerie and Shipwright's Regret.
A couple of the sets do give some extra options for groups looking to optimize their composition for end-game content. We’ve picked out what we think are the three strongest sets.
Gryphon’s Reprisal - New ESO Set
We start with the least powerful set to make it into the article.
Gryphon's Reprisal is a damage oriented set that gives the caster and his or her allies a synergy that summons a small gryphon to attack the target, inflicting a ten second bleed on them.
The bleed is actually quite nasty and it can crit too. In PvE this set is sadly massively outpowered by meta trial sets, so I don't think it will see much usage there at all. However in my experience bleed builds in PvP can be quite difficult to fight against if you don’t have a purge or very good healing over time abilities. The set also gives you some offensive penetration and extra critical chance, so it does a good job of buffing your overall damage.
I certainly don’t think this set will be making it into the “meta” in either PvE or PvP, but I do think it is at least strong enough to see some niche usage in PvP.

The Glacial Guardian set is a heavy armor set that passively grants armor, stamina and health recovery while wearing it, making it more tank oriented. Blocking an attack from a nearby enemy with this set equipped will create a tether to that enemy, dealing some frost damage which scales from your maximum health stat, and also gives the tethered enemy a 200% higher chance to receive status effects.
Wearing this set as a tank will effectively give your entire group the Charged trait in addition to whatever trait they already have on their weapons, which buffs pretty much everyone in some way. A reminder of the status effects in ESO (Elder Scrolls Online):
- Burning - Comes from fire damage and inflicts an extra burning DoT on the target for 4 seconds.
- Concussed - Comes from shock damage and afflicts the target with Minor Vulnerability.
- Chilled - Comes from frost damage and inflicts Minor Maim and Minor Brittle.
- Diseased - Comes from disease damage and inflicts Minor Defile.
- Poisoned - Comes from poison damage and inflicts an extra poison DoT for 6 seconds.
- Sundered - Comes from physical damage and applies Minor Breach to the target.
- Overcharged - Comes from magical damage and applies Minor Magickasteal.
- Hemorrhaging - Comes from bleed damage and applies Minor Mangle to the target (bosses are generally immune to this debuff however).
So with all of this in mind, Glacial Guardian can benefit pretty much everyone in your group, but it will be especially useful to those who are applying a lot of burning to the target, particularly magicka Dragonknights, and a tank or Warden damage dealer who is working to apply Minor Brittle to enemies.
This set won’t be right for all groups in all situations, but it definitely does bring some support value to some groups, depending on their composition and what they are trying to accomplish.

Turning Tide is another tank oriented set, granting max health and max stamina to the wearer passively.
This set offers a lot of flexibility to groups when optimizing their damage output. A tank wearing this set can apply Major Vulnerability to enemies with a simple bash attack, with a maximum possible uptime of 66%. It also does a bit of extra damage to targets when applied, which scales from your maximum health.
Previously the only reliable way to get Major Vulnerability was to have necromancers in your group using their Frozen Colossus ultimate ability, however this is no longer the case.
I think it's definitely worth it for tank players to get this set, as having it available will allow you to considerably increase the damage output of groups that do not have enough necromancers to maintain a high uptime of Major Vulnerability. Usually, optimized trial groups have three Necromancers rotating their ultimate to achieve this.
But not all groups are perfectly optimized and most players don’t want to play a particular class just to tick boxes for their raid leader on group optimization, and in these cases you can help things move along more smoothly by simply equipping this set and bashing every 15 seconds.
