The Murkmire World Boss Giving ESO Players a Hard Time
Players in ESO (Elder Scrolls Online) who have spent some time in Murkmire may well have encountered a particularly tricky world boss, a giant lurcher that goes by the name of Walks-Like-Thunder.

thread on the ESO subreddit was recently created about the boss, where players shared their stories of difficulties they’d had while taking on this boss, with some offering advice on how they were able to solo the boss.

How to defeat Walks-Like-Thunder in ESO

Walks-Like-Thunder is certainly a tricky customer, with one feature of the boss in particular making him hard to beat.

The boss doesn’t really do an especially high amount of damage to you, the problem with the boss is his ability to rapidly regenerate his health by spawning several totems which send healing at him. This ability makes him perhaps more resilient than any other world boss in ESO.

Players must destroy these totems quickly to stop his healing - something which is particularly punishing for melee players as the totems tend to be quite widely dispersed.

There is another problem though, he spawns quite a few totems and unless your damage output is very high, you could find that you simply can’t destroy them quickly enough to prevent them delivering massive amounts of healing to Walks-Like-Thunder. As pointed out by players on the Reddit thread mentioned above, there are a couple of things you can do to help with this.

It is possible to reduce the amount of healing that Walks-Like-Thunder receives by afflicting him with the debuffs Minor Defile and Major Defile. These debuffs are often used in PvP to reduce an enemy player’s ability to regenerate after taking damage, however it seems that we can also make use of the debuffs here.

You can inflict Minor Defile with the Diseased status effect - sourced from any disease damage. Nightblades have the easiest time here, with several class abilities dealing disease damage, such as Incapacitating Strike and Relentless Focus. You can also put a Glyph of Foulness on your weapon to do regular amounts of disease damage when you use a weapon ability.

Major Defile can be inflicted with various abilities, such as Soul Harvest, Dark Flare, Blighted Blastbones, Corrupting Pollen, Standard of Might and Claws of Anguish.

Putting both of these debuffs on the boss will buy you more time to destroy the totems. If you still find that you are struggling to defeat the boss, then remember to ask around in Zone chat or Guilds - chances are there will be someone else who needs to kill the same boss as you or is just happy to help!

If you want to try your hand at defeating this boss, you can find him at Echoing Hollow in Northern Murkmire.
