On January 27th, the Elder Scrolls Online revealed their 2022 story-arc and new game content that is about to release in June and which will be called Legacy of the Bretons. It will feature The Systres Archipelago with its center-piece High Isle located far southwest of Daggerfall and northwest of Summerset. Here you can find a recap about everything that was revealed.
Account-Wide Achievements
Beginning with Update 33, the next dungeon DLC, ZOS will be making most of a player’s earned achievements account-wide. This means that an achievement earned on one character will also show as completed on another character.
This is something that a lot of players have been yearning for a long time. It not only means that they will be able to purchase items that require Achievement completion, but also that titles will now also be account-wide. Most will probably enjoy that they no longer have to cling to one character because that one has all the important achievements, but can now change their character without the fear of having to start entirely anew. Players will no longer have to stick to one character to get all the achievements, so that’s an ease of mind aspect especially for achievement hunters.
As soon as the Update goes live, players will have to log in to each of their characters, so that all achievements can be merged. They shouldn’t delete any of their character before that update, unless they want to lose those achievements data.
With everything though, there are a couple of exceptions that come with account-wide achievements. Not everything that is tracked will also be account-wide, such as:
- Enchanting knowledge achievements (Crafting)
- Motif Crafting knowledge Lorebooks (Eidetic Memory and Shalidor’s Library) achievements
- Skyshards collection achievements
- Public Dungeon Group Event achievements
- Dragonguard Sanctum Daily achievements
To make player’s life easier though, ESO will now make tracking Motif crafting knowledge easier. ZOS added links from Motif achievements to their lorebook entries so that they can jump from the achievement (which is now account-wide) to the lorebook entry (which is still character tracked)
Undaunted Progression
As part of the account-wide achievements, ESO will rebalance how the Undaunted skill line advances. Players will now obtain Undaunted reputation when completing the quests found in instanced dungeons, and increase the amount of reputation they gain for completing Undaunted dailies. ZOS also removed Undaunted guild progression that was linked to Undaunted achievements.
Another update which falls into the same category, and which is worth mentioning is that as soon as a player unlocked any individual piece of a Perfected set item, they will also automatically unlock the same piece of its Non-Perfected counterpart.
Thoughts
These changes aren’t always seen as positive though, there have been voices in the community that thinks this is a problematic change.
The main problem seems to be that now single character progression seems to become useless. Because if we get into PvP or endgame PvE content, just because someone could do something very difficult on one character, doesn’t necessarily mean that they can also do it on the other character.
Some people also complain about the loss of feeling like it was a huge accomplishment to do it on several characters and therefore proving that they are capable of doing it on several different characters.
The biggest complaint though seems to be that the majority of people against this don’t want to have shared titles. Titles have always been something exclusive to a character that has earned hard achievements, such as the Emperor title.
Overall, there seems to be a huge split between three different opinions: those that welcome the change, those that no longer feel a special connection with their individual characters and those that need proof of progression.
