Confused ESO Players Wondering Why Zenimax Doesn't Release Solid Long Term Roadmaps

We've covered the saga of the Lost Depths PTS quite extensively on ESO-Hub, and even though the final PTS patch notes have now been out for a couple of days, it seems that it still isn't over. Due to strange manner in which Zenimax have repeatedly changed the combat systems of the game in this PTS cycle, with seemingly no rhyme or rhythm, while also sometimes making slightly vague references to an internal plan they have that is justifying all of this, some players have been voicing their confusion and disillusionment with the game and asking why Zenimax can't just tell the players exactly what this plan is, perhaps in the form of a one or two year roadmap.

Should Zenimax Release a Roadmap for ESO?

We are focusing mainly on two threads that appeared on the ESO Forums recently.

On the first thread, an ESO player started things off by remarking how EverQuest, an MMO released in 1999, still manages to have fairly detailed roadmaps laying out the annual plans for the game, but ESO does not. Some players pointed to Roadmaps that Zenimax have released for ESO, but others then countered this by saying that they are very limited in scope and do not contain any long term plans about the direction for combat and balance changes.

The second thread was started by Nefas, and he started off by saying: "Rather than a brief Q&A, I think many players would want a detailed roadmap or a non-vague post on what the combat team's vision is for The Elder Scrolls Online in the long-term, whether it's 6 months, 1 year or 2 years. As it is, most players are unable to trust in a vision because we simply don't know what the vision is even though that vision or ultimate goal is alluded to multiple times in multiple posts."

He later continued: "With U35, a lot of people just aren't sure what the direction of the game is. We are told "pain now to suffer less later" but it'd be nice to know when that pain could end for the most part or what we're suffering for exactly."
This seems to be a good point well made. Players have been saying for some time now that they feel trust between themselves and the developers has been broken somewhat by recent events.

While communication has actually been better from Zenimax during this PTS cycle, a good way to start to repair the relationship with some disillusioned players may be to begin releasing detailed roadmaps that cover a longer scope of time, so that we know exactly what Zenimax is trying to achieve and how it is intended to interact with future changes.

It has to be noted that Zenimax have released roadmaps for ESO in the past, but it seems that they are not of a significant enough scope to satisfy some players in light of recent events.
