Why You Should Attack Enemies from Behind in ESO

It's generally important to attack enemies, especially bosses, from the rear or the flank in the Elder Scrolls Online. But why is this so?

If you are a newer player in the Elder Scrolls Online then you might not have known that it's actually very important to attack some enemies from the back or from the flank. This especially applies to bosses, but it also applies to some "trash" enemies in dungeons and trials too. But why is this the case?
