No Loot for You! - The Irritating Oversight in ESO High Isle's World Bosses

There's a problem affecting the World Bosses in Elder Scrolls Online: High Isle which is causing upset for some players.

ESO's High Isle chapter has already been out for over a week, so players have had quite a bit of time to get stuck into it by now.

Some adventurers have unfortunately ran into problems with the World Bosses in the new High Isle and Amenos zone which is proving to be quite bothersome.

But what's the problem here, exactly?

Falling Afoul of ESO's Loot Limit

Since High Isle is new, there's naturally an above average concentration of players in the zone, especially during peak times, and one of the most common activities that players will do in the zone is fight against the World Bosses, sometimes as part of the Daily Quests.

Due to the number of players involved, some of them have been running into what could be considered a silly oversight in the way looting works on these World Bosses - essentially you have to do a certain percentage of the boss' health as damage before it dies, otherwise you will not get any loot from it.

Elder Scrolls Online High IsleElder Scrolls Online High IsleThis is especially punishing and unfair to players who are doing the bosses on a tank or a healer, or are just new to the game and aren't yet able to pull high amounts of DPS. I've also encountered a couple of players in the past who love the game but literally cannot do high amounts of DPS due to a disability, so for those people this is especially unfair.

Whatever someone's reasons are for not being able to hit the required percentage of damage in these scenarios, overland content is supposed to be accessible for all players, mostly casual and definitely not competitive, so a system that denies loot to players based on their combat performance really has no place in the game.

There's been quite a bit of discontent on the Official ESO Forums about this and I can understand why. The purpose of the system is to stop people from just doing one or two light attacks to the boss and still getting loot from it, but it falls flat when there are lots of people present and the boss dies very quickly. It just seems like a poorly thought out solution that misses the mark in some situations, and punishes players who are just trying to play the game normally.

Zenimax should definitely take a look at this and come up with a solution that's more fair, nothing annoys players more than the feeling that they have just wasted their time or been short-changed by an arbitrary game mechanic.

We hope you enjoyed this article about ESO High Isle. The Elder Scrolls Online is a massively multiplayer online game (MMO) developed by Zenimax Online Studios.
