The upcoming 2025 Season of ESO ushers in a major evolution of character customization with the introduction of the Subclassing System. Included as part of the base game, this feature will be available to all players.

The ESO Subclass System empowers adventurers to further personalize their gameplay experience by incorporating class skill-lines from other classes into their existing character builds. Whether you're seeking to diversify your combat options or explore new playstyles without rerolling a new character, subclassing opens the door to unprecedented flexibility.

How Does Subclassing Work In ESO?

Subclassing in The Elder Scrolls Online (ESO) is an account-wide feature, meaning that once it is unlocked, it becomes available across all characters on the account. When utilizing this system, players are required to retain one of their original class skill lines—for example, a Sorcerer must keep one Sorcerer skill line. However, the other two class-based skill lines can be freely swapped with those from any other class. This includes access to associated skills, morphs, and passive abilities.

According to ZeniMax Online Studios (ZOS), there are now over 3000 potential skill line combinations available within ESO, offering a wide range of customization options.

It’s important to note, however, that the system does come with certain limitations. Players cannot replace all three of their original class skill lines; one must remain intact. Additionally, subclassing allows for the use of complete skill lines only—it does not permit individual skills to be mixed and matched from multiple classes. As such, characters are limited to one core class skill line, supplemented by two skill lines from one or two other ESO classes.

ESO Build Editor and Builds Database

The ESO Build Editor will be updated accordingly. You will be able to mix and match skill-lines to your liking. Additionally, make sure to check out the ESO Builds Database (You can sort for most recently updated) for updated builds once the new season goes live in June. We are sure players will come up with very creative ways to break the current meta apart and form a new one! Or just create fun builds for all players!
