Mara's Balm - A New PvP Meta in the Elder Scrolls Online?

Mara's Balm - A New PvP Meta in the Elder Scrolls Online?

As is usual for new updates in the Elder Scrolls Online, the Lost Depths update will add several new item sets to the game. One of these is a new PvP set called Mara's Balm. The set has the potential to provide the player with a lot of extra healing, especially in 1 versus X scenarios, making it a great candidate for a meta "defensive" set.

What Does Mara's Balm Do?

Mara's Balm will passively grant the wearer extra armor, critical resistance and healing taken. These effects are from the two, three and four piece set bonuses, respectively. However the really strong aspect of this set is from the five piece bonus.

When you are wearing all five pieces, you will be healed for 2111 HP every time a negative effect is removed from you. In addition, taking damage when you have six or more negative effects on you will cleanse all negative effects immediately. The first part of the effect has no cooldown, but the second part has a 15 second cooldown. This is actually a bit stronger than it sounds, because a negative effect naturally expiring without being purged by the set itself or a skill such as Cleansing Ritual will also heal you.

It's important to note that the term "negative effect" is very broad indeed, this encompasses debuffs, damage over time effects, enemy channeled skills, stuns, roots and snares. Someone who is wearing this set will be much harder to pin down due to the automatic cleansing that they get every 15 seconds, and they will get tons of healing too. Mara's Balm will make for an especially good combination with the Templar class, as they will be able to use Cleansing Ritual during combat to get extra heals.

ESO Templar ClassMara's Balm looks like an especially good fit for PvP TemplarsThe set went under the radar a little bit on the PTS with everything else that was going on. There are now a few calls for it to be nerfed before Lost Depths releases later this month (on PC) however this seems unlikely as all PTS updates have now been completed, so the developers are probably focused mostly on fixing bugs now.

You will be able to obtain the Mara's Balm set from your Rewards for the Worthy mails in your in-game inbox. These are awarded to you when you earn a certain amount of Alliance Points.
