ESO Set Spotlight: Willow's Path, Tormentor, Vicious Serpent

ESO Set Spotlight: Willow's Path, Tormentor, Vicious Serpent

In this week's ESO Set Spotlight, we are going to take a look at another three item sets in the Elder Scrolls Online, see what uses they have and how powerful they are. Specifically, we will be looking at Willow's Path. Tormentor and Quick Serpent

Willow's Path set in ESO

Willow's Path is a crafted set in the Elder Scrolls Online, which is immediately useful as it means we can use it on any armor type quite easily. The set has one simple purpose in mind: Give the player lots of resource recovery. You get 129 health, magicka and stamina recovery as a flat buff, and in addition to this your total recovery for all three of those will be increased by 18% when you are wearing all five pieces of the set. This means that the set gives you a bigger buff if you already put some effort into buffing your recovery.

So what is the set good for? It's not a meta set at all for pretty much anything, however it can still be useful when playing in PvP for sustaining your abilities, especially when under a lot of pressure, simply by giving yourself plenty of regeneration to work with. It's also good for beginners in PvE, especially for tanks.

Tanks get the most out of the set because they are making use of both magicka and stamina and it's very bad news if you run out of either of these. The health recovery is generally less important but it can help you to stay alive if you are playing in a group with a beginner healer who sometimes isn't healing you that much.

Willow's Path can work well if you are learning to tank in ESOWillow's Path can work well if you are learning to tank in ESOFor more skilled tanks there is no use for this set as there are many better options in the game that will directly buff your group or debuff your enemies, but when you are a beginner and your primary focus is to stay alive and keep aggro on enemies, using a "selfish" set like Willow's Path just increases the room for error that you have and gives you an easier time learning your role.

If you want to use Willow's Path, then you can craft it in one of these three locations:

You will need six traits researched for each item that you want to craft.

Tormentor set in ESO

Tormentor is a funny set in ESO. Generally speaking it's not something that's advisable to use, however you can make use of it to make very unconventional tank builds, or "meme" tank builds such as a werewolf tank.

The set gives you extra max health and healing received, and will also cause all of your charge, leap, teleport and pull abilities that deal damage to an enemy to taunt that enemy, in the same way that a skill like Pierce Armor would taunt them, which is how tanks usually hold aggro of enemies in the Elder Scrolls Online.
Again, it really isn't advisable to use this set for the vast majority of builds because you can use Pierce Armor, Inner Fire or one of the other morphs of these skills to taunt your enemies when you're using a conventional tank build, so dedicating a five piece set to get the same effect is very wasteful. This also explains why things like Werewolf tanks are not considered at all optimal in end game content. However, if you still want to tank as a Werewolf, either just for fun or just to troll people, then this set will allow you to do that. Use Feral Pounce when you have this set equipped and you will taunt any enemies that you hit.

Tormentor lets you make unconventional tank builds, like werewolf tanks, in ESOTormentor lets you make unconventional tank builds, like werewolf tanks, in ESOIf you want to obtain this set, then you can get it from either The Banished Cells I or The Banished Cells II, which are base-game dungeons located in northern Auridon

Vicious Serpent set in ESO

The final set we are looking at today is the Vicious Serpent set in ESO. Vicious Serpent is a set with quite a bit of history, as it used to be meta for stamina players in years gone by, but how does the set hold up today?

Wearing Vicious Serpent will first of all grant you extra critical chance and the Minor Slayer buff, which are useful for any DPS player. When you are wearing all five pieces of the set, you will also gain some extra weapon and spell damage, an 8% cost reduction on your stamina skills, and you get a new special ability - when you kill an enemy, you restore 2454 stamina and gain Major Expedition for 8 seconds, increasing your movement speed by 30%. This effect only has a 1 second cooldown, meaning you can get absolutely tons of stamina when fighting against many enemies.

While it's fallen a long way out of the meta for trials and dungeons, this is still a very useful set when you are solo, especially if you're doing content like the Maelstrom Arena where enemies come at you thick and fast and you will not have any support from a healer to help you to sustain. While there are certainly sets out there that will give you more raw damage output, Quick Serpent allows you to easily sustain your skills and quickly get to the places you need to be with its Major Expedition buff, as long as you are persistently killing enemies (which you will be doing constantly in arenas).

Vicious Serpent is very strong in places like Maelstrom ArenaVicious Serpent is very strong in places like Maelstrom ArenaSo if you are a Stamina DPS player and you want a set to help you in solo play, then I definitely recommend giving this one a try if you haven't already.

To obtain this set you will need to farm it from any of the Craglorn trials, which are a part of the base game meaning you do not need any DLC or expansions to access them. These trials are Aetherian Archive, Hel Ra Citadel and Sanctum Ophidia. They drop from both the normal and veteran versions of the trial, and you can commonly find groups who are also farming them in the Craglorn zone chat.
