ESO Favors are a new daily quest system coming to The Elder Scrolls Online in Season One, launching post-Update 50. Announced during the April 9 2026 ESO dev stream, favors don't follow the old repeatable daily format with story-driven tasks tied to named characters, ongoing hireling-style letters and house-worthy rewards at the end of each arc.

ESO Favors at a Glance

  • Release: Season One, post-Update 50.
  • Access: Free for all players
  • System: Daily quests with narrative arcs, delivered through letters tied to named characters
  • Where: Free Runner's Post Boards in the tier-one cities of Glenumbra, Stonefalls and Auridon.

What Are Favors in ESO

Favors are a rework of the daily quest format. The goal is to break the old daily routine where players cycle through the same four to six repeatable tasks and give each daily a narrative spine instead.

Here is what separates favors from a standard ESO daily quests:

  • Tied to a named character. Each favor is handed out by a specific NPC, not a generic quest board, so the tasks are framed as personal requests.
  • Ongoing letter chain. Every time you complete a favor, the character mails you a letter the next day that continues their personal story arc.
  • Hireling-style pacing with a payoff. It's described favors as an homage to the old hireling mail system, only with actual narrative arcs and a real reward at the end.
  • Large shared task pool. Instead of the same handful of objectives, favors pull from a wide variety of activities across Tamriel (covered in the How Favors Work section below).
  • Returning characters. Favors bring back named NPCs players have not seen in a long time, with three confirmed characters at launch and more planned in follow-up updates.

ESO Favors Rewards

Rewards scale with how far you push a character's story. Daily favors pay out standard quest rewards, but the real draw is what you get for finishing a full arc.

  • Daily rewards: Standard quest gold and loot for each completed favor.
  • Story completion reward: A unique housing item tied to the character whose arc you finished. The confirmed example from the stream is a framed poster you can hang in your home, described as collectible like trading cards.
  • Free-reward fallback: If a favor sends you to a quest you have already completed, you receive a letter and a free loot box instead of being forced to repeat content.

Where to Find ESO Favors: Free Runner's Post Boards

Favors are handed out from Free Runner's Post Boards in a city of each alliance's starter zone.

Alliance Zone Contact
Daggerfall Covenant Glenumbra Lady Arabelle
Ebonheart Pact Stonefalls Holgunn One-Eye
Aldmeri Dominion Auridon Urcelmo, Battle-Reeve of Queen Ayrenn

The boards are marked with a distinct quill icon on the map. Each one has its own NPC contact who briefs you on the available tasks and delivers the follow-up letters.

The Three Launch Characters of ESO Favors

Each character has their own pool of tasks and their own separate story arc. Arabelle's favors are not Holgunn's favors. If you want the full experience across all three, expect to rotate through boards.

Lady Arabelle Davaux (Daggerfall Covenant)

Retired Lion Guard captain, former agent of High King Emeric, and current chief of security for the Society of the Steadfast. Operates out of Mandrake Manor in Gonfalon Bay and pulls the strings behind the scenes of the High Isle peace talks.

Holgunn One-Eye (Ebonheart Pact)

Grizzled Nord commander of Davon's Watch and veteran of the Second Akaviri Invasion, where he lost the eye that gave him his name. Shield-brother to Tanval Indoril and later partnered with Walks-in-Ash.

  • Primary appearances: Stonefalls (base game, 2014), spanning the full zone story from Davon's Watch through Fort Virak
  • Other appearances: The Rift (Pact camp at Honrich Tower and Trolhetta during the Worm Cult arc), base game Main Quest (Coldharbour invasion in "God of Schemes")
  • Ebonheart Pact chronological order guide

Battlereeve Urcelmo (Aldmeri Dominion)

Commander of the First Auridon Marines and Queen Ayrenn's personal escort. A logistics expert as much as a fighter, responsible for keeping the Queen alive while she tours the Dominion.

  • Primary appearances: Auridon (base game, 2014), across the Veiled Heritance arc including A Hostile Situation, Through the Ashes and Breaking the Barrier
  • Other appearances: Reaper's March ("The Moonlit Path" and "The Den of Lorkhaj")
  • Aldmeri Dominion chronological order guide

How ESO Favors Work

Instead of handing you a fixed list, each favor pulls from a large pool of task types.

Confirmed task types include:

  • Delves
  • World bosses
  • Fishing. See the full ESO fishing guide for rare catch locations.
  • Gathering
  • Feeding stray cats in various Skyrim zones
  • Story-gated tasks that pop up at specific moments in a character's arc

Tasks are not locked to the zone where you pick up the favor. Expect to move around Tamriel. The intent is to keep the daily routine from calcifying into the same loop in the same three delves every evening.

The Rare Hidden Quest Hooks in ESO Favors

ZOS went through the base game and identified quests that fewer than five percent of players have ever completed. Some favors will send you to those quests directly and highlight where they start.

If you are one of the rare players who already finished the quest in question, you get a letter and a free reward instead of being sent back to repeat it.

What's Next for ESO Favors: Guild Favors

ZOS has confirmed that guild-themed favors are the next planned expansion of the system. After the three launch character arcs are in place, guild favors will add new stories tied to specific in-game guilds, along with their own reward tracks.
