The PC EU server hardware upgrade is coming sooner than expected

Matt Firor, the studio director at Zenimax Online posted a new thread about the outstanding PC EU hardware upgrade and also gave some info about the console upgrades.

The hardware upgrade is already active and running on the PC NA server for some time. We also reported on positive changes where players noticed that lag had been "fixed", but shortly after it seemed to slowly creep back in again, more here.

Currently the date for the PC EU servers is set to March 2023 according to the post.

ESO update on PC EU server hardware

Upgrade sooner than expected?

Many might now think that this is way too long and it should be done sooner. Why are we saying this is sooner than expected? Supply chain issues all over the world basically make it almost impossible to get any reliable time frame for anything a bit more advanced.

There are several months if not years of wait time for more advanced items due to the supply chain issue currently ongoing. Even worse so if you need plenty of it, you might order 1000, but only get 200 delivered in time. Supply chain issues have been a huge problem since COVID appeared and made even worse with the war in Ukraine.

Matt Firor also mentioned that they actually have ordered the PC EU hardware a long time ago, but some critical parts are missing and that is the main reason why they can't advance with the upgrade yet. The PC EU hardware upgrade should be complete sometime in March 2023. However, we would not be surprised if it actually takes longer than that. We can really only wait and hope the ordered server hardware will get there in time.

When do the ESO Console servers get the upgrade?

Matt Firor also mentioned that the console servers should get the hardware upgrade soon after. This likely means that they have already most of the parts ready to go, but like with the PC EU server are also still missing some parts to fully assemble the whole kit.

Supply chains likely won't get back to pre-COVID levels of efficiency for years and getting the right parts will stay a struggle and also get way more expensive.
