Last year marked by Necrom and hardware improvements
In the current end-of-the-year letter, Matt Firor (ZeniMax Online Studio's Studio Director) looks back on the year 2023 and reveals what we can expect in the new year of ESO. In addition to the release of Necrom and the Endless Archive, the focus this year was on improving server stability. To achieve this, numerous hardware components were renewed. Overall, they are very satisfied with the performance, even though further work is still needed.
Moreover, the launch of ESO in the Epic Games Store this July resulted in the highest number of active players in a month since 2015. Since Summerset, Necrom has been the highest-rated chapter in some rankings, proving that ESO has wonderful storytelling capabilities, according to Firor. The continuation of the Daedric realms story in the Elder Scrolls lore has been very important to them and will continue in 2024.
The Infinite Archive also introduced a new challenging and repeatable game element. In the future, they also want to focus on similar game systems that bring long-term motivation. Of course, storytelling should not be neglected, but balanced with elements such as trials and dungeons.
10-Year Anniversary events
Next year, much will revolve around the 10th anniversary of ESO. The game was first launched on PC on April 4, 2014, followed by the release on consoles in June 2015. For this reason, there will be a 10-year anniversary period from next April to July 2025, which will be filled with several event highlights. The Global Reveal event in January will kick off the celebrations, where a preview of Tamriel’s story will be given. There will also be “new systems” that “everyone will want to hear about.”. A highlight will definitely be the 10-Year Anniversary community event in Amsterdam in April. There will also be an ESO Tavern in Germany again in next July (July 13.-14). In 2025, there will also be a large in-person anniversary event in the USA.
Everything we know about the 10-Year Anniversary community event in Amsterdam:
- A two-day in-person event at the SugarFactory in Amsterdam (Netherlands) from Friday, April 5, until Saturday, April 6.
- There will be developer panels, roundtable discussions, hands-on gameplay, community activities and live music.
- Moreover, the first-ever in-person ESO cosplay competition.
