On December 12th ESO Players were positively surprised to see a ESO Plus Trial active until the 19th, but had no idea what would soon follow. First the Crown Store was locked and secondly both Console and PC megaservers went down. In case you're out of the loop on todays events, in this article we will explain everything that has happened so far.
Keep up to date on ESO Server Status here: https://esoserverstatus.net/
- FINAL UPDATE: All megaservers have been restored.
- UPDATE 4.45PM GMT: PC EU and NA servers have been restored. Consoles are still waiting.
- UPDATE 5.45AM GMT: It is estimated that PC NA and EU servers will be brought online around 10AM EST / 3PM GMT on Friday, December 13. Console servers will get a status update after the PC servers have been brought online.
- UPDATE: The Datacenter failure happened because a standard backup fail safes did not get triggered. This type of outage is designed to only happen in the event of a fire or flood (which isn't the case in this one).
First: ESO Crown Store was locked down
ESO Plus Trial started and Sunken Trove Crown Crates returned to the store. Some players quickly realized that the Apex Rewards were only 800 Seals of Endeavor instead of the usual 8,000-8,600 Seals.
ZOS_GinaBruno informed players on the official forums that Crown Store was locked down on all megaservers while they investigate an issue. She also added that players who bought the Apex Rewards for the wrong price will get to keep them and there will be no actions taken against anyone. After the servers come back up, the pricing will have been corrected to the intended price.
Second: All ESO Megaservers and the Account page went down
ESO Players got stuck in loading screens, got booted off the servers and encountered a "201 Error" when trying to log back in. ZOS_Kevin immediately asked for more information on the ESO Forums and it became apparent that no one, on any of the platforms or servers were able to log in to the game.
We were quickly informed by Gina Bruno, that a ZOS datacenter has had a power failure which caused the Account Page and all ESO NA & EU Megaservers to go down. ZOS continues to investigate the issue and is estimating that the servers might be down for at least 12 hours.
We do not yet know exactly when the servers will be brought back online, but we do know that ZOS is is taking their time to ensure all servers will be brought back online safely and efficiently.
The Crown Store issue and the datacenter power failure are not connected, the timing was just unfortunate.
These are all the details we currently know about the unprecedented ESO server outage.
