Today it's been confirmed that the Elder Scrolls Online will finally be getting a new class as part of the Necrom Chapter later in the year. The class is called Arcanist. This comes after a four year wait for another new class to be added - the previous one was the Necromancer class, added in 2019 with the Elsweyr chapter.
We'll also be traveling to two new zones, one in a previously unexplored part of Tamriel, and another in a plane of Oblivion belonging to the Daedric Prince Hermaeus Mora. The two zones are called Telvanni Peninsula and Apocrypha.
New Arcanist Class in ESO
The Arcanist class will become the seventh playable class in ESO, accessible for players who own the new Necrom Chapter.
Become empowered by the secrets of Apocrypha and the forbidden knowledge of Hermaeus Mora. The Arcanist is a powerful new Class capable of destructive, restorative, or defensive magic by channeling the arcane, ancient runes and lost tomes of power.
From the little we know so far about the new Arcanist class, it seems that the class will be designed to be versatile in nature, capable of fitting well into any of the three traditional roles - DPS, Tank or Healer.
In the past, new classes have shaken up the meta quite considerably, for example the Frozen Colossus ultimate ability on the Necromancer was originally extremely powerful, and in spite of subsequent nerfs it remains an important part of group play to this day, due to its ability to debuff multiple enemies with Major Vulnerability.
We will see if the Arcanist will have similarly powerful abilities, potentially allowing it to redefine the meta in both PvE and PvP.
The Necrom Chapter will allow you to unlock up to 20 character slots. You will get one slot for free when you purchase the Necrom Chapter.
New Zones in the ESO Necrom Chapter
Alongside the new class, we'll also be traveling to two new zones in the Necrom chapter.
The first of these new zones will be the Telvanni Peninsula, home to the city of Necrom along with towering mushrooms, rocky spires and expansive catacombs.
The second new zone will be Apocrypha, the realm of Hermaeus Mora. You will be able to behold the Forbidden Books of the Endless Library and the mind-bending wonder of Chroma Incognito.
New Story Content - Shadow over Morrowind
The Prince of Fate holds secrets too dangerous for mortals or daedra to comprehend. Hidden yet turbulent powers threaten Hermeaus Mora's realm of Apocrypha and if the Daedric Prince's secret is uncovered, it could unravel all of reality.
It seems that in the Necrom chapter, the player will be the unlikely ally of Hermeaus Mora - it will be interesting to see how such a pact will play out in the story.
2 New Companions
Two new Companions will launch with the Necrom Chapter. Argonian Warden, Sharp-As-Night and Azander, a Redguard Arcanist.
Trial, World Events, Public Dungeons and more
Like with every chapter you will also see new World Events, new Public Dungeons, Delves and a new 12 player trial.
