Crown Store Companions coming to ESO in Update 44

Crown Store Companions coming to ESO in Update 44

ESO (The Elder Scrolls Online) U44 adds two new companions that need to be purchased from the Crown Store; Tanlorin (a non-binary High Elf Dragonknight and Soul Magic hybrid) and Zerith-var (a Khajiit Necromancer). In this article we will go over how to unlock them and what you can expect when they join your adventuring party.

ESO's Free base game Update 44 will be releasing October 28 for PC and November 13 for Consoles.

Crown Store Companions in Update 44

We are working on guides for our Tanlorin and Zerith-var companion pages, but you can already read all the skills and passives they will have:

For the first time in ESO's history, companions are separated into bundles and added to the Crown Store instead of being included in a Chapter.

Players have had a mixed response to the way these new companions are acquired. Some players do not purchase Chapters and are happy that they will be able to get companions separately. On the other hand, some feel the companions should be included in the Chapters and are not happy to purchase them separately, especially if they are not ESO Plus Subscribers.

ESO's two New Companions Zerith-var and Tanlorin can be unlocked in two ways
  1. Buy them with Crowns from the Crown Store.
  2. Unlock them from the Crown Store for free with a ESO Plus Subscription.

You may choose to purchase Tanlorin and Zerith-var together or separately. Once unlocked, the companions are permanently added to your account for all characters even if your ESO Plus Subscription lapses at some point. We will know companion prices once Update 44 is launched.

In case you are new to the Companion System, feel free to read our other Companion Guides while we work on Tanlorin and Zerith-var.

Tanlorin

After claiming the "Tanlorin, High Elf Agent" bundle from the Crown Store for the first time, Tanlorins quest "The Garland Ring" is auto accepted and added into your journal. You will find Tanlorin trapped in an ice trap just north of Vulkhel Guard Wayshrine. All your other characters will find Tanlorin in this same spot and can accept the quest from them.

You gain rapport with Tanlorin by completing Fighters Guild Daily Quests, Daily Alchemy writs, drinking wine, lockpicking successfully and killing daedra among many other activities.

On the other hand, Tanlorin is not a fan of the Mages guild which means you will lose rapport entering Mages Guilds, reading Lorebooks, visiting Eyevea, killing indriks and other similar activities.

Their Perk is called "Garland Ring Humming pick" which has benefits to lockpicking: increased duration time to pick a lock and a higher chance to force lock. Reduces your chance to lose a lockpick on fail to pick a lock. The perk is active while Tanlorin is summoned and once you have completed the A Bloom on the Horizon achievement it will always be active on all of your characters.

Tanlorin in ESO is voiced by Vico Ortiz.

You can check out Tanlorin skills on Tanlorin ESO-hub page and read guides about them later when they are released.

Zerith-Var

After claiming the "Zerith-var, Khajiit Out of Time" bundle for the first time, Zerith-vars quest "A Moonlit Shadow" is auto accepted and added into your journal. You find Zerith-vars quest NPC Cantor Krin'ze just south of Moonmont Shrine in Reaper's March. All your other characters will find Cantor Krin'ze in this same spot and can accept the quest from them.

Zerith-var likes when you complete Northern Elsweyr Defence Force Daily quests, complete Tales of Tribute matches, consume Purifying Bloody Mara drinks and kill vampires among other similar activities.

He is not a fan of illegal activities so you will will lose rapport with Zerith-var if you murder civilians, sell/launder stolen items or get bounties from using Necromancer skills in towns.

Zerith-vars perk "Ja'kh's Bell of Bounty" makes heavy sacks in the world glow similarly how chests glows after unlocking the Keen Eye: Treasure Chests passive from the Excavation skill line. Additionally there will be small spirit cat paw prints around the glowing heavy sacks. The perk is active while Zerith-var is summoned and once you have completed the The Twilight Path achievement it will always be active on all of your characters.

ESO Zerith-Var is voiced by Darin De Paul.

You can check out Zerith-vars skills on Zerith-var ESO-hub page and read guides about him later when they are released.
