Does research continue when I log off?

Yes. Research timers count down in real time whether you are online, offline, or playing a different character. Starting a 9-day research means 9 real-world days pass before it completes.

Is trait research account-wide or character-specific?

Character-specific. Each character must research traits independently. If you want multiple crafters, each one needs to complete the full research process.

Does the item level or quality matter when researching?

No. A level 10 white-quality Divines chest researches the same trait as a level 50 gold-quality Divines chest. Once you know a trait, you can craft it at any level and quality.

Does the style matter when researching?

No. Researching a Breton-style item teaches the trait, not the style. You can then apply that trait to any style you know.

Can I research multiple traits on the same item simultaneously?

No. You can only research one trait per item type at a time. You cannot start researching Infused on a chest piece while Divines is already researching on that same chest piece. However, you can research Divines on a chest, Precise on a sword, and Bloodthirsty on a ring all at the same time (different item types).

Do light, medium, and heavy armor share research?

No. Light armor, medium armor, and heavy armor are separate categories. Researching Divines on a light armor chest does not teach you Divines for medium or heavy armor chests. You must research each armor weight separately.

Can I research traits from items crafted by other players?

Yes. Any item with a trait can be researched, whether you found it, looted it, or another player crafted it for you. This is the fastest way to get specific traits for research.

What are Ornate and Intricate traits? Can I research them?

Ornate increases vendor sale price. Intricate increases Inspiration gain when deconstructed. Neither can be researched or crafted. They exist only on dropped items.

Which traits should I research first?

Research traits you will actually use first: Divines for armor, Precise for weapons, Bloodthirsty for jewelry. See the Research Order Priority section above for complete recommendations.

Should I finish all 9 traits on one item before moving to the next item?

No. Research the first trait on multiple items instead. Six different items with one trait each unlocks more craftable sets than one item with six traits.

Do craftable sets require specific traits to be researched?

No. Craftable sets require you to know X number of traits total, but any traits count. Hunding's Rage requires 6 traits researched. It does not matter which 6 traits you know.

Can I change a trait on existing gear?

Yes, through Transmutation Stations in Clockwork City or player housing. Transmutation costs 50 Transmute Crystals and you must have the desired trait already researched for that item type.

Do Research Scrolls work with the new Update 49 times

Yes. Research Scrolls reduce current research timers by a fixed amount (typically 1 day). With the reduced timers in Update 49, scrolls now complete a larger percentage of each research, making them more powerful than before.

Can I research while crafting or doing other activities?

Yes. Research runs in the background. You can craft, deconstruct, quest, PvP, or do anything else while research timers count down.

What happens if I accidentally research the wrong trait?

Nothing can be undone. The item is destroyed and that trait slot begins researching. You cannot cancel research to get the item back. Always double-check before confirming research.

Do I need to keep the item in my inventory while researching?

No. The item is destroyed immediately when you start research. You do not need to keep anything in your inventory while the timer runs

Can I speed up research with skill points?

Yes. Metallurgy (Blacksmithing), Stitching (Clothing), Carpentry (Woodworking), and Lapidary Research (Jewelry Crafting) reduce research time by 25% at max rank and allow multiple simultaneous research slots.

Does ESO Plus affect research time?

Yes. ESO Plus provides a 10% research time reduction that stacks multiplicatively with crafting passives. Combined, you get approximately 35% total reduction
