How to Obtain and Use a Mount in ESO - Elder Scrolls Online

 header
Welcome to our beginner's guide on how to obtain and use mounts in ESO (Elder Scrolls Online). Mounts are an important feature in ESO, having one and learning to use it will greatly speed up your adventures in Tamriel and beyond.

With some upgrades at the Stablemaster, they can also give you more inventory storage space. In this guide you can find out where and how to obtain a mount, and what you need to do in order to summon it.

Where to obtain a mount in ESO

It is easy to get your first mount in ESO, and what's more, it's completely free!

You may have noticed that ESO gives you rewards every time your character levels up, these are called Milestone rewards. When you reach level ten, the game will give you the Sorrel Horse as a reward. Once you reach this point, you no longer need to run everywhere on foot! Your other characters will also be able to use this mount as soon as you have obtained it, regardless of their level.

To claim your level up rewards, simply open the Character Menu by pressing C by default on PC/Mac, the Menu button on Xbox, or the Options button on PlayStation. Then choose the “Claim” option.

Stablemasters have a selection of mounts available for purchase. You can buy the Bay Dun Horse, the Brown Paint Horse and the Midnight Steed for 42,700 gold each. Simply interact with the stablemaster to browse these mounts.

There are also many mounts available for purchase in the Crown Store, and new ones get released quite often including some limited edition mounts. Lastly, it is possible to obtain more rare mounts in the game during some events and by completing some content - you can read about these in more detail in our Mounts Guide.

How to summon and use your mount in ESO

To summon your new mount in ESO, you must first equip it. You can do this by going into the Collections menu by pressing U by default on PC/Mac, or on console by pressing the Menu button for Xbox, or the Options button for PlayStation, then scrolling to the Collections tab.

Then go to the Mounts section of the menu, find your new mount and double click on it to set it as your active mount.

Simply press H by default on PC/Mac, hold down the Back button on Xbox, or hold down the Touchpad on PlayStation to summon your mount. Note that you cannot summon your mount in most indoor locations or player homes, and you also can't summon it if you are in combat.

Your mount has its own stamina bar which will deplete when you are sprinting or upon taking damage. If you take damage while your mount has no stamina left, you will be knocked from your mount and get stunned.

Часто задаваемые вопросы

Do different mounts have different stats in ESO?

The difference between mounts in Elder Scrolls Online (ESO) is purely cosmetic. The base speed and stamina for every mount in the game is identical, so you don’t need to worry about this when choosing a mount. This is great because it means you can just choose the one that you like the most.

Can my mount die in ESO?

No. If your mount’s stamina is depleted to zero and you subsequently take damage, you will be knocked off your mount, and it will be unsummoned. However you can summon it again as soon as you are out of combat.

Can I use my mount on all of my ESO characters?

Yes! All mounts in ESO are account-wide, so as soon as you obtain a mount with one of your characters, you can start using it on your other characters too.

Can I put my mount in my ESO house?

Yes. When you are in your house, use the Housing Editor as you normally would to place any furnishing item in your home. If you own any mounts, there will be a Mounts section in the editor. You can select one of your mounts from here and place it in your home as you would with any other item. You can even set a path for your mount to walk around on!

To learn more about this, check out our Housing Guide for ESO.

Can I make my mount go faster in ESO?

Yes, there are a couple of ways you can do this. Firstly, you can use the [Rapid Maneuver] skill from the Assault skill line. You will have to go to [Cyrodiil] or [Battlegrounds] and do some PvP to unlock this, however.

You can also upgrade your character’s riding skill at any Stablemaster merchant. Note that these upgrades are bound to your character, not to the mount, so you will need to do them on all of your alts as well. To learn more about this, check our complete Guide to Mounts in ESO.
